Happy Friday!

I am just loving all the sun! So much sun and wonderful heat here in beautiful BC. The only thing I don't like when it is so hot is my complete lack of energy. It is just too hot to do anything. That is alright though...this can be a relaxed, lounge around the yard kind of week. :) I would take the extreme heat over the cold any day. Anyways...on to my project of the day...

I wanted to share with you a neat idea that I came up with the other day. I had put Emilia's hair up in a pony tail and wanted to make it look a little more dressy so I decided to put in some lace. I found this old piece of lace in my sewing stash, it is a beautiful piece of double row eyelet...sew nice! I took the piece of lace and tied one end to her pony. Then I wrapped the lace around and around until I got to the end. At the end I tucked the raw edge in and bobby pinned it so that it was secure. It turned out great! I think it looks a little like a rosette. Sew pretty! And sew easy! My two favorite things.

Fixed Lego Shirt

Good Morning!

Give me a cheer for finishing a project! I finally fixed the lego t-shirt for my son. I turned out great! I am so impressed with the freezer paper stenciling my head is spinning with ideas for all sorts of projects...So excited! Thinking of doing a shirt for myself with a peacock feather on the front, might have to paint that one by hand with acrylic paint with textile medium mixed in so that I can blend the colors. Also maybe a butterfly shirt/skirt for my daughter. Hmmm, so many possibilities. I have been searching the net for other ideas...like I need more. ;) It is just fun to look.

Here are some that I like:

Also I like these designs by the artful parent. and this post by Soulemama

Loving all the great ideas! My mind is overflowing.

Day in the sun

I just love the lazy days in the sun. It is so fun to be able to sit outside with the kids and just create. We decided that we were going to paint...nothing in particular. We had so much fun and it was great to be able to make a mess outside...I try to keep messes in the house to a minimum. :) It always seems that what I have envisioned in my mind of the art the kids will make is not at all what they come up with. So much fun to let them just create!

Hope you have some fun outside today!

Fail

Good Morning Everyone!

Finally had a chance to work on a project that I have been dying to do. To bad it did not work out as planned...project fail. Actually the project worked really well...I failed. When it came time to spray paint I was so excited that I forgot to take my time and make sure all the parts I didn't want painted were properly covered. I did cover the surrounding areas with newspaper but somehow the paint sprayed underneath...BAH! I do have an idea on a few ways that I can fix it...we will see if those work...maybe I will try them tonight. :) The final try will be when I take the logo and cut it out and fuze it to another shirt with some fancy orange stitching around it. The freezer paper stencil worked exactly as everyone described...Awesome! The project fail has not dampened my enthusiasm one bit...I can't wait to create my next project! If you have any other ideas of how I might fix this fail then please leave me a note. If it works out then I will post a tutorial (I mean when it works out ;) Have a great day!

Beautiful day!

Good morning!

Why is it that when it is rainy and yucky outside I have no motivation to do anything...and then on days like today, when I should be outside enjoying the beautiful weather, I now feel like doing all the things I should have done yesterday. I had all that free time yesterday and did basically nothing...well not nothing I guess I did fix six pieces of clothing. What I should have been doing is cleaning my house so that when it is a sunny day...like today then I wouldn't have to do those things. Oh well! I think that the house can stay messy one more day so I can play...don't you?

So here's to putting your "I have to's" aside and living in the moment! :)

Hope you have a great day too!

Mending and fixing and other boring stuff

All it seems that I have done lately is fix and mend clothes...fixing holes in pants, mending a fallen hem here or a small tear there. Nothing really exciting really. I was a little disappointed when the beautiful pink dress I had already fixed for Emilia in a previous posting came out of the wash with pen stains on it. So now I need to make more yo-yo's to cover those stains too. I am going to have to find more fabric to make more...bah. I spent so much time fixing this dress for Emilia where the elastic was stretched out...it did not work out how I had planned...I think I will have to add something else to cover up the top maybe a ruffle or something. We will see how things turn out, but I just can't call them finished until I am happy with them.

This is the dress with the blue ink spots...she only got to wear it once. Not sure exactly what I will do yet as the spots seem to be strategically placed in the front...if you know what I mean. I might need to do a giant ruffle, or maybe two ruffles. We will see.

Pillow case dress and other things

Hey there!

Sitting here missing my husband so much. While he is off building houses in Guatamala. So I am trying to make sure that I fill up all my time so that I will not have time to think about how much I am missing him or how much I wish that I was there. Yesterday I filled my time by going to the post office and getting my tires changed and now I will share this project with you...

This is a pillow case dress. I literally took a pillowcase and cut off the closed end. Once the end was cut off I cut up the sides to make it less boxy looking and a little more A lined and re-sewed the sides. I used a tank top of my daughters to get the arm holes right and just trimmed them up to match. Then I folded all the raw edges over and hemmed them. I took the top front and top back and made a half inch casing so that I could put a tie through it. I also took a strip of t-shirt material and made a long stitch through it and gathered it up to make a ruffle and sewed it to the front of the dress.

I just love this idea. It is such a beautiful pillow case with such beautiful embroidery on the front. There are so many beautiful vintage pillow cases that could be made into something great like little girls dresses.
